The imposter gets a hint word to bluff with, so every round is closer. Hints are switched on below.
Why play with hints
Without a hint the imposter has nothing to go on until the first clues, and with a quiet group they’re often caught in round one. With a hint word, the imposter can give a believable clue straight away, so the crew has to listen harder. It’s the best setting for new players and for groups of three or four.
Three hint levels
- Hint word: the category plus a related word. The friendliest for the imposter.
- Category: just the category, like Animals or Places. The usual way to play.
- No hint: the imposter knows nothing. Hard, and very funny.

What is the imposter game with hints?
The same imposter word game, but the imposter is shown a hint: a word loosely related to the secret word. It gives them something to bluff with, so rounds are closer and newer players enjoy being the imposter.
What hint does the imposter get?
The category and one related word. For Penguin the hint is Ice; for Pizza, Oven. Enough to sound plausible, not enough to name the word.
Can I turn the hints off?
Yes. In the settings choose Category to show only the category, or No hint for the hardest version.
